Optical Instruments use lenses rather than laser diodes. Optical Instruments are primarily used to horizontally level, vertically align and measure distances. The user looks through the optical instrument lens to a specific point where they have located a grade rod which has a European M-Face marking. The user can take the required readings from the grade rod using the relevant horizontal and / or vertical lines visible through the lens.
